Holy fucking shit. I underrated this band for so long, having only heard one of their twelve albums ( six of which were made in two years) and not being that enthused by it. That was until I saw DiG!, a 2004 documentary by Ondi Timoner. DiG! follows the exploits of two bands, The Brian Jonestown Massacre and The Dandy Warhols. It is narrated by Courtney Taylor, and tells the story of their friendships, rivallaries, their rises and their falls. It's only after you watch this film that you can really learn to appreciate the BJM. Anton Newcombe is an amazingly interesting character and at times it's hard to believe it's even real and now having listened to all the BJM albums I don't think I will ever stop. Seriously, watch the film you won't regret it.
